So you wanna be in pictures?

"So you wanna be in pictures?" This infamous phrase which dates to the old studio era of filmmaking still carries with it the heart and desire of every generation of aspiring actor. It seems like such a simple be an actor. "To be or not to be? That is the question." Well, the film acting industry is not brain surgery though it can hurt as much. I have been acting since I was a kid and have been teaching the craft of film acting for the last fifteen years. In that time I would have seasons where I would do nothing but teach, then I would skirt away to do a film role or a commercial. Somehow, in my blending of teaching and doing I have amassed over 800 professional film, television, stage, and voice-over credits. But my parallel joy is to see the many students I have trained over the years step into the industry with vigor and success. Yes, it is true that the mark of a good teacher is in the success of his students. In that I will never be disappointed. But I am not dead yet. This is a season of acting for me. The parts are starting to come as I put my face back into the casting spotlight. This means, however, that my focus on teaching has had to be redirected. In an effort to get out of the studio and onto the set, I have finally followed the very adamant desired of my associates and friends to put what I teach on DVD. I resisted for a long time not knowing how what I taught in such an intimate and personal way in the studio would translate to DVD. I can honestly say that my Film Actor's Lab DVD Interactive Series does work. It is the next best thing to being in my studio and the fact that I stay in touch with my DVD students by e-mail and with this NEW BLOG allows be that personal touch that I have had with my students throughout the years.
